The developers of the popular game Rust are implementing advanced surveillance techniques to combat cheating. According to Facepunch COO Alistair McFarlane, the team monitors player interactions as if they are playing a real-time strategy game, logging every action such as gunshots and messages. This data can be reviewed live or played back to identify cheaters. The system includes automated analysis of cheat reports, which can trigger immediate or delayed actions against offenders. Facepunch is also moving towards Secure Boot and Trusted Platform Module requirements to further enhance security, although these measures are currently optional.
