What's Happening?
The LSU AgCenter, in collaboration with the Grow Louisiana Beginning Farmer Training Program and the Louisiana Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Professional Development Program, is organizing the 2026 Organic Farming Workshop. Scheduled
for April 17-18 at the LSU main campus in Baton Rouge, the workshop will feature Daniel Parson from Oxford College Farm at Emory University. Participants will explore sustainable farming practices, including soil fertility, crop rotation, pest management, and marketing strategies. The event aims to provide practical insights for small- and medium-scale horticulture farmers. The USDA Farm Service Agency will also present information on programs for beginning farmers.
Why It's Important?
This workshop is crucial for promoting sustainable agricultural practices among farmers, particularly those new to organic farming. By providing education and resources, the event supports the growth of environmentally friendly farming methods, which can lead to healthier ecosystems and more resilient food systems. The involvement of the USDA Farm Service Agency highlights the government's commitment to supporting new farmers, potentially leading to increased adoption of organic farming practices. This initiative may contribute to the broader movement towards sustainable agriculture, benefiting both the environment and local economies.
