What's Happening?
Frazer-Nash Consultancy Ltd has completed a research project assessing the quality of life cycle assessment (LCA) data for steel, cement, and concrete products. Conducted between July 2024 and October 2025, the project aimed to understand the impact of using
generic versus specific data and the variability in methodological choices. It also compared the EU CBAM methodology with other LCA standards to evaluate emissions across the life cycle of these materials. The research sought to inform policy and contribute to international consensus-building on industrial decarbonization.
Why It's Important?
This research is significant for the construction industry as it addresses the challenges of accurately assessing the environmental impact of building materials. High-quality LCA data is crucial for developing effective policies and strategies for reducing emissions in the construction sector. The findings can guide industry stakeholders in adopting more sustainable practices and inform regulatory frameworks. As the industry moves towards decarbonization, such research supports the transition to greener construction methods and materials.
