VBN Components, in collaboration with a pump manufacturer, has demonstrated a method for integrating additively manufactured cemented carbide into large-scale cast components. This approach uses a Vibenite Nucleation Net Zone (VNNZ) to enable metallurgical
bonding between high-chromium cast iron and Vibenite 480, significantly increasing wear resistance. The method allows for the strategic placement of wear-resistant materials in high-wear zones, offering a scalable and cost-efficient solution for extending component lifetimes. The technology is set to be verified in full-scale slurry pump housings, focusing on the most wear-exposed areas.
