What's Happening?
Focus Graphite Inc. has successfully developed and validated a new AI-enabled technology for in situ graphite flake size characterization. This technology is integrated into the geometallurgical model of the Lac Tetepisca Graphite Project in Quebec. The innovation allows for high-resolution mapping of flake size distribution directly from conventional drill core material, eliminating the need for extensive bulk metallurgical testing. This advancement supports improved resource valuation and mine planning by providing detailed insights into the spatial distribution of flake sizes across the deposit. Preliminary results suggest an inverse relationship between graphite grade and flake size, indicating potential for a lower cut-off grade and improved project
economics. The technology is expected to be applied to Focus's Lac Knife Project, enhancing efficient and ESG-aligned mining strategies.
Why It's Important?
The development of this AI-enabled technology is significant for the graphite mining industry as it offers a cost-effective and precise method for characterizing flake size distribution. This can lead to more accurate resource valuations and optimized mine planning, potentially increasing the economic viability of graphite projects. By understanding the spatial variability of flake sizes, Focus Graphite can align its extraction processes with market demands, reducing waste and improving operational efficiency. This approach not only enhances economic outcomes but also supports environmental sustainability by minimizing unnecessary material movement and aligning with ESG goals.
What's Next?
Focus Graphite plans to incorporate the results from this technology into the upcoming mineral resource estimate update for the Manicouagan-Ouest Graphitic Corridor deposit, expected in late Q1 2026. The company also intends to apply this methodology to its Lac Knife Project, which is nearing completion of permitting deliverables. This strategic application aims to establish efficient, customer-driven operations from the outset, aligning with Focus's broader ESG initiatives.
