What's Happening?
Caspian Offshore Construction (COC) has acquired a new anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel from Sinopacific Engineering & Contracting (SPEC). This vessel, named Caspian Yili, is the first in the SPA90 series and marks a significant expansion in COC's
fleet capabilities. The shipbuilding contract was signed on April 30, 2026, and the vessel was launched on May 20. The Caspian Yili, featuring 90 tonnes of bollard pull, DP2 capability, and diesel-electric propulsion, is designed for various offshore operations including towing, anchor handling, and subsea operations. This acquisition is part of COC's strategy to enhance its offshore marine assets and expand its market presence internationally.
Why It's Important?
The acquisition of the Caspian Yili represents a strategic move for COC to strengthen its operational capabilities in the offshore marine sector. By adding this advanced vessel to its fleet, COC can offer more flexible and capable support for complex offshore operations, potentially opening new market opportunities. This expansion aligns with the company's goal to increase its presence in international offshore markets, which could lead to increased competitiveness and revenue growth. The investment also reflects a broader trend in the offshore industry towards modernizing fleets to meet the demands of increasingly complex offshore projects.
What's Next?
Following the delivery and deployment preparations, the Caspian Yili is expected to join COC's fleet in the fourth quarter of 2026. The company will likely seek to charter the vessel to reputable clients, leveraging its enhanced capabilities to secure contracts in the international offshore market. This move could also prompt COC to explore further acquisitions or partnerships to continue expanding its fleet and service offerings.
