What's Happening?
Central European Media Enterprises (CME) has joined the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE), a global coalition dedicated to combating piracy. CME operates television stations across Central and Eastern Europe, including in Bulgaria, Croatia,
and the Czech Republic. The ACE coalition, led by the Motion Picture Association (MPA), includes over 50 media and entertainment companies, such as Amazon, Netflix, and Disney. The coalition aims to address the sophisticated and coordinated nature of modern piracy, which poses a significant threat to the creative industries. By joining ACE, CME seeks to strengthen efforts to protect the integrity of the audiovisual market and support lawful content distribution.
Why It's Important?
The inclusion of Central European Media Enterprises in the ACE coalition highlights the growing recognition of piracy as a major challenge for the global media and entertainment industry. Piracy not only undermines the financial viability of content creators but also affects the broader economy by reducing tax revenues and employment opportunities. By joining forces with other major industry players, CME and ACE aim to enhance their collective ability to combat piracy through legal and lobbying efforts. This collaboration is crucial for safeguarding intellectual property rights and ensuring that creators and distributors can continue to produce and share high-quality content.
