Riot Games has introduced a new update to its Vanguard anti-cheat system for the game Valorant, targeting DMA-based cheat firmware that utilizes SATA and NVMe interfaces. This update has rendered the affected DMA firmware unusable on the same Windows
installation by triggering an IOMMU restart warning in-game. DMA, or Direct Memory Access, allows hardware devices to access system memory without CPU intervention, which can be exploited by cheat devices to manipulate game memory. Riot Games had previously indicated that DMA tools connect directly to the motherboard, complicating detection by Windows. The update is part of Riot's ongoing efforts to enforce IOMMU to prevent unauthorized access to Valorant's memory.
