WPXI is celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day by recognizing the contributions of its journalists Jenna Harner and Shelby Cassesse. Harner, who joined WPXI in 2020, has gained respect for her work during the COVID-19 pandemic and has won a Murrow Award for her story on a Pitt Basketball assistant coach. Cassesse, who joined in 2024, is known for her sports storytelling and has won an Emmy for her coverage of Olympic gold medalist Michael Grady. The day, established in 1987, acknowledges the achievements of female athletes and promotes equality in women's sports.
