What's Happening?
Lily Santisi, a 12-year-old competitive dancer from Phoenix, recently received a private dance lesson from the Radio City Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. This opportunity was made
possible by the Garden of Dreams and Make-A-Wish foundations. Santisi, who was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer, had always dreamed of becoming a Rockette. During the lesson, she learned choreography from the Rockettes' 'Christmas Spectacular' performance, guided by Bailey Harding and Paige McRae, both experienced Rockettes. The lesson was tailored to Santisi's level of dance training, allowing her to quickly grasp the iconic high kicks and choreography. Her family was present to witness the special moment, which was part of a larger event where 500 children from the Garden of Dreams Foundation attended a matinee performance of the 'Christmas Spectacular.'
Why It's Important?
This event highlights the significant impact that organizations like the Garden of Dreams and Make-A-Wish can have on children facing serious health challenges. By fulfilling Santisi's dream, these organizations provide emotional support and joy to children during difficult times. The experience not only brought happiness to Santisi but also offered her family a moment of relief and pride, seeing her return to dance. Such initiatives underscore the importance of community support and the role of arts in healing and inspiring young individuals. The Rockettes' involvement also demonstrates the power of cultural institutions in making a positive difference in society.
