What's Happening?
Kentucky Proud, the official agriculture marketing brand of Kentucky, is hosting its Virtual Spring Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Week from February 16-20. The initiative aims to connect consumers with local farms by promoting the CSA model, where consumers purchase shares or subscriptions directly from farms. This model allows consumers to receive a variety of farm products, such as vegetables, fruits, and meats, throughout the season. The event is a collaboration between Kentucky Proud, the Center for Crop Diversification, the Food Connection, the Kentucky Horticulture Council, and the Organic Association of Kentucky. Over 66 CSA farms are participating, offering a wide range of Kentucky's freshest farm products.
Why It's Important?
The promotion of Community
Supported Agriculture (CSA) is vital for supporting local farmers and strengthening the connection between consumers and local food sources. By participating in CSA programs, consumers can access fresh, locally grown produce while supporting the economic viability of small farms. This initiative also highlights the importance of sustainable agriculture practices and the benefits of keeping food dollars within the local economy. The collaboration between various agricultural organizations in Kentucky demonstrates a commitment to promoting food security and agricultural diversity. CSA Week serves as a reminder of the value of local agriculture in providing healthy food options and supporting community resilience.
