What's Happening?
GlobalFoundries and Navitas Semiconductor have announced a strategic partnership to enhance U.S.-based gallium nitride (GaN) technology and manufacturing. This collaboration aims to support high power
applications such as AI datacenters and energy infrastructure. Navitas, known for its GaN and SiC technologies, will work with GlobalFoundries to manufacture next-generation GaN technology at the Burlington, Vermont facility. The partnership is set to begin development in early 2026, with production expected later that year. This initiative is designed to provide advanced, secure, and scalable GaN solutions, supporting national security and competitiveness.
Why It's Important?
The partnership between GlobalFoundries and Navitas Semiconductor is significant for the U.S. semiconductor industry, as it strengthens domestic production capabilities for GaN technology. GaN is crucial for high-efficiency power applications, and its adoption is accelerating in sectors like AI, energy, and industrial electrification. By enhancing U.S. manufacturing capacity, this collaboration supports national security and competitiveness, while driving innovation in energy sustainability. The partnership also aligns with broader efforts to decarbonize energy and compute platforms, contributing to environmental goals.
