What's Happening?
The Carbondale-based nonprofit VOICES, founded in 2016, is dedicated to amplifying diverse voices through storytelling and art. The organization provides platforms such as visual arts, poetry, and theater
to help individuals share their stories, aiming to break down stereotypes and foster community connections. MinTze Wu, the executive and artistic director, emphasizes the importance of storytelling in understanding and connecting with others beyond labels and stereotypes. VOICES has implemented projects like Nuestras Voces, a Spanish-speaking theater initiative, and the Queer Voices project, to create safe spaces for marginalized communities to share their experiences. These efforts are supported by the Aspen Community Foundation, which aims to inspire philanthropy and community-led change.
