Meta Platforms Inc. and Broadcom Inc. have announced an expanded partnership to co-develop custom AI accelerator chips through 2029. This collaboration will begin with over 1 gigawatt of initial computing capacity, scaling to multi-gigawatt levels. The
partnership focuses on Meta's Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) chips, optimized for inference and low-precision processing workloads. Broadcom will provide technology from its XPU platform, including Ethernet networking solutions and high-radix switches, to support scaling across Meta's data centers. As part of the agreement, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan will transition from Meta's board of directors to an advisory role, guiding Meta's custom silicon roadmap.
