What's Happening?
The New York Mets have announced a partnership with Audacy and SportsBug to provide real-time, no-delay digital radio play-by-play for fans attending games at Citi Field. This service will be available starting with the Mets Home Opener on March 26, 2026.
Traditionally, in-stadium digital audio broadcasts have delays ranging from 30 to 90 seconds, making it difficult for fans to follow the game while watching live. SportsBug's technology reduces this delay to under one second, allowing fans to listen to the Mets Radio play-by-play broadcast in sync with the live action. The service is accessible through the MLB Ballpark App on any mobile device, with no additional cost to fans.
Why It's Important?
This development is significant as it enhances the live game experience for fans at Citi Field by synchronizing the audio broadcast with the live game. This innovation could set a new standard for in-stadium experiences across Major League Baseball, potentially increasing fan engagement and satisfaction. By integrating this technology, the Mets are leveraging digital advancements to create a more immersive environment, which could lead to increased attendance and fan loyalty. Additionally, this partnership highlights the growing importance of digital platforms in sports entertainment, as teams seek to offer unique and engaging experiences to their audiences.
What's Next?
As the service launches, it will be important to monitor fan feedback and engagement levels to assess the success of this initiative. If successful, other MLB teams may consider adopting similar technologies to enhance their own in-stadium experiences. The Mets, Audacy, and SportsBug will likely evaluate the impact of this service on fan satisfaction and explore further innovations to maintain a competitive edge in fan engagement. Additionally, the integration of this technology could lead to new sponsorship and advertising opportunities within the MLB Ballpark App.
