Garfield High School's boys' soccer team faced off against Ross Branson in the inaugural CIF state Division V championship game, held at Natomas High. Despite a strong performance and support from over 100 fans, Garfield lost 2-0. The match was marked
by two critical communication errors on defense, which proved costly for the Bulldogs. Coach Pablo Serrano commended his team for their outstanding play, highlighting the efforts of goalkeeper Javier Zarate, who delivered an impressive performance. Zarate also took the opportunity to thank CIF executive director Ron Nocetti for establishing what will become an annual state soccer championship event.
