Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig has called on the U.S. House's Rural Domestic Energy Council to facilitate the year-round availability of E15, a gasoline blend containing 15% ethanol. Naig highlighted that E15 sales in Iowa increased by 44% to 256.7 million gallons in 2024, offering a cost-effective alternative to regular gasoline by approximately 15 cents per gallon. This price difference resulted in savings exceeding $65 million between 2023 and 2024. Currently, over 1,100 fuel retailers in Iowa sell E15, with more than 150 additional retailers planning infrastructure upgrades to offer the blend by the end of 2026. Naig emphasized that the growing preference for ethanol blends is driven by their affordability, which in turn boosts
corn demand, creates jobs, and stimulates economic activity in rural areas.
