What's Happening?
Sherman Library & Gardens in Corona del Mar has announced a new partnership with Hazeltine's, a restaurant set to open in late summer 2027. The restaurant will be managed by Damian Orozco, known for his Tea House on Los Rios in San Juan Capistrano. Hazeltine's will offer
brunch, lunch, dinner, a full-service bar, and a monthly afternoon tea experience. The restaurant is named after Moses Hazeltine Sherman, the library's namesake, and will be located in a newly reconstructed building facing Pacific Coast Highway. The new space aims to provide a purveyor-to-table dining experience, emphasizing seasonal ingredients. The library, founded in 1966, is temporarily closed for construction, but the gardens remain open.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of Hazeltine's at Sherman Library & Gardens represents a significant cultural and economic development for the Corona del Mar area. This partnership is expected to enhance the local dining scene by offering a unique culinary experience that combines historical and botanical elements. The restaurant's focus on community involvement and legacy building aligns with the library's mission to preserve and promote the history of the Pacific Southwest. This development could attract more visitors to the area, boosting local tourism and supporting the economy. Additionally, the collaboration highlights the importance of integrating cultural heritage with modern hospitality to create memorable experiences.
What's Next?
Ahead of its official opening in 2027, Hazeltine's will host several afternoon tea events in the garden, providing a preview of the dining experience. These events are scheduled for June 14, July 19, August 16, September 13, and October 18, each with a unique theme. The restaurant's opening is anticipated to draw significant attention from both locals and tourists, potentially leading to increased foot traffic and economic activity in the area. The ongoing construction and development efforts at Sherman Library & Gardens will continue to be a focal point for the community, with updates expected as the opening date approaches.
