sectors, including agriculture, cybersecurity, food technology, healthcare, mental health, and pharmaceuticals. The BIRD Foundation, which has been active for 49 years, supports strategic collaborations by providing conditional grants of up to $1.5 million and assisting companies in finding strategic partners. The newly approved projects are expected to leverage additional private-sector investment, resulting in a combined total investment of approximately $20 million. The projects are evaluated by BIRD staff and evaluators from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) of the U.S. Department of Commerce and the Israel Innovation Authority.
Why It's Important?
The BIRD Foundation's funding is significant as it fosters innovation and strengthens economic ties between the U.S. and Israel. By supporting joint product development in critical sectors, these projects can lead to technological advancements and economic growth. The collaboration between U.S. and Israeli companies can enhance competitiveness and drive innovation in industries such as healthcare and cybersecurity, which are vital for national security and public health. The Foundation's investment has historically generated substantial economic returns, with over $10 billion in direct and indirect revenues from past projects. This initiative not only boosts technological development but also reinforces the strategic partnership between the two nations.
What's Next?
As the projects progress, the involved companies will work on developing and commercializing their innovations. The BIRD Foundation will continue to facilitate partnerships and provide support to ensure the success of these collaborations.
