What's Happening?
During a game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers, plate umpire C.B. Bucknor was struck by a foul tip in the face mask, forcing him to leave the game. The incident occurred in the second inning when Tampa Bay's Nick Fortes hit a 100-mph
fastball from Milwaukee's Jacob Misiorowski, which deflected backward and hit Bucknor. Following the impact, Bucknor, aged 63, went down on his knees and was attended to by Brewers catcher William Contreras and the team's training staff. After consultation, Bucknor exited the field, and Chad Fairchild, initially the first-base umpire, took over behind the plate, transitioning the game to a three-man umpiring crew. The game experienced a delay of approximately 13 minutes due to the incident.
