What's Happening?
Swiss electrification specialist H55 has selected the Safran Electrical & Power ENGINeUS motor to power the Bristel B23 Energic, a battery-powered version of the Czech-built trainer aircraft. Safran Electrical & Power will support both the prototype and
serial production phases of the program, beginning in 2027. The partnership aims to accelerate the availability of certified electric propulsion solutions for next-generation two-to-six-seat aircraft. Safran's ENGINeUS motor, which received European Union Aviation Safety Agency approval in 2025, enables the development of both all-electric and hybrid aircraft, making it a key asset for introducing fully certified and integrated solutions to the market.
Why It's Important?
The collaboration between Safran and H55 represents a significant step forward in the electrification of aviation, particularly for flight trainers. As demand for electric aircraft increases, this partnership could pave the way for more sustainable and environmentally friendly aviation solutions. The development of certified electric propulsion solutions for general aviation targets CS-23-category aircraft, potentially transforming the industry by reducing emissions and operational costs. This move aligns with global efforts to reduce carbon footprints and promote green technologies in transportation.
What's Next?
The partners are already looking beyond the initial application, seeing their collaboration as opening the door to further electrification projects. As the program progresses, additional developments in electric propulsion solutions for general aviation are anticipated. The successful implementation of the ENGINeUS motor in the Bristel B23 Energic could lead to broader adoption of electric aircraft technologies across various aviation sectors.
