McNally Editions, a publishing arm of New York City bookseller McNally Jackson, is set to reissue the late English author Beryl Bainbridge's novel 'An Awfully Big Adventure' in the United States. Originally published in the U.S. by HarperCollins in 1991, the novel will be re-released on March 10 with a new foreword by Yiyun Li. This initiative marks the beginning of McNally's plan to bring Bainbridge's works, which are relatively unknown in the U.S., to American readers over the next several years. Bainbridge, who passed away in 2010, was known for her macabre and witty writing style, often infused with tragedy. Her works have been described as short, snappy, and not for the faint of heart. McNally Editions plans to follow up with two more of Bainbridge's novels,
'According to Queeney' and 'Young Adolf', over the next two years.
