What's Happening?
Maywood Environmental Park in Sheboygan is preparing to host its annual Walk on the Wild Side event on June 20. This fundraiser aims to support the park's programs and improvement projects. The event will feature bird-themed activities, including live
bird ambassadors from the Open Door Bird Sanctuary. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the park's six diverse habitats—pine forest, hardwood forest, ponds, river, wetlands, and prairie—along a 3-mile route. The walk is designed to be casual, allowing attendees to explore nature at their own pace. Learning stations along the route will offer hands-on activities covering topics such as birding, bird diets, and bird protection. Registration for the event is available online, by mail, or in person at Maywood's Ecology Center, with cash registration also available on the day of the event.
Why It's Important?
The Walk on the Wild Side event is significant as it raises funds for Maywood Environmental Park's conservation and educational programs. By engaging the community in environmental education and awareness, the event promotes the importance of preserving natural habitats and wildlife. The focus on bird-themed activities highlights the role of birds in ecosystems and the need to protect them from environmental hazards. This event not only supports local conservation efforts but also fosters a sense of community involvement in environmental stewardship. The funds raised will help maintain and improve the park's facilities, ensuring that it remains a valuable resource for education and recreation.
What's Next?
Following the event, Maywood Environmental Park plans to continue its efforts in environmental education and habitat conservation. The funds raised will be allocated to various improvement projects within the park, enhancing its facilities and programs. The park may also explore additional community engagement activities to further promote environmental awareness and conservation. Participants and supporters of the event can expect updates on the impact of their contributions and future opportunities to get involved in the park's initiatives.
