The Montgomery Advertiser has opened voting for its Girls Athlete of the Week, presented by the Vance Law Firm, for the week of May 18-22. The voting period began on Sunday, May 24, and will remain open until noon on Thursday, May 28, with the winner
to be announced on Friday, May 29. The nominees are selected based on top performances submitted by high school coaches or statisticians. Among the notable performances, Saint James' Emily Needham pitched 26 innings, achieving a 4-0 record and striking out 35 batters during the Class 3A AHSAA softball state tournament, earning her the MVP title of the championship game. Other standout athletes include Wetumpka's Lalah Culpepper and Saint James' Sydney Johnston and Emily Darby, who also delivered impressive performances during the tournament.
