What's Happening?
A new 13.5-mile urban hiking route has been developed in Northeast Los Angeles, connecting several parks and neighborhoods. The route, named 'River to the Hilltops,' was created to link existing trails and provide a continuous path through the area’s
green spaces. The hike begins at Flat Top Park and passes through notable locations such as Ernest E. Debs Park, Ascot Hills Park, and Lincoln Park. The trail offers hikers a chance to experience the diverse landscapes and communities of Northeast L.A., with panoramic views of the city and opportunities to explore local flora and fauna. The route was inspired by other urban trails and aims to promote the benefits of urban hiking.
Why It's Important?
This urban hike highlights the growing interest in urban hiking as a way to explore city landscapes while promoting physical activity and environmental awareness. By connecting parks and neighborhoods, the trail encourages residents and visitors to engage with their local environment and appreciate the natural beauty within urban settings. The development of such trails can also foster community involvement and support for the preservation of green spaces. Additionally, urban hikes can contribute to local tourism and economic activity by attracting hikers to explore different parts of the city.
