What's Happening?
The 36th Southern California Spring Garden Show is currently taking place at South Coast Plaza, transforming the Crate & Barrel and Macy’s Home Store wings into a vibrant botanical landscape. This event, which runs through Sunday, is recognized as one
of the premier garden showcases in the region. It features rare plants and flowers from 47 garden vendors, along with meticulously styled outdoor living spaces. The centerpiece of the show is a 25-foot botanical installation inspired by the theme 'Nurtured by Spring,' featuring natural plant materials and designed by Fiesta Productions. The event also includes unique vendors like Casey’s Carnivores, specializing in carnivorous plants, and Lee & Company Orchids, offering rare orchids from Hawaii.
Why It's Important?
The Southern California Spring Garden Show is significant as it draws plant enthusiasts and horticulturists from across the state, promoting interest in gardening and plant care. It provides a platform for vendors to showcase rare and exotic plants, fostering a community of plant lovers and encouraging sustainable gardening practices. The event also supports local businesses and artisans, contributing to the regional economy. By highlighting unique plant species and offering educational tours, the show enhances public awareness about biodiversity and the importance of plant conservation.
What's Next?
The event will conclude with a docent-guided tour of the South Coast Plaza Palm collection, led by a horticulturalist from Sherman Library & Gardens. This tour, scheduled for Sunday, April 26, will provide an educational insight into the diverse palm collection dating back to the 1940s. The continuation of such events is likely to inspire more community engagement in gardening and plant conservation efforts, potentially leading to increased participation in future garden shows and related activities.
