What's Happening?
The state CPA societies of Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont have merged to form the New England Society of CPAs, effective immediately. This new regional organization aims to consolidate resources and networks to enhance
programming, thought leadership, and learning opportunities. It also seeks to address the ongoing talent shortage in the CPA profession by expanding outreach to accounting students. Zach Donah, the current president and CEO of the Massachusetts Society of CPAs, will lead the new organization, which will maintain existing staff across the five states and start with 14,500 members.
Why It's Important?
The merger is significant as it represents a strategic consolidation aimed at strengthening the CPA profession in New England. By pooling resources, the new society can offer enhanced services and support to its members, potentially leading to better professional development and advocacy. This move could also help address the talent shortage in the accounting field by attracting more students to the profession. The merger underscores the importance of regional collaboration in maintaining a robust professional community that can adapt to changing industry demands.
What's Next?
The New England Society of CPAs will focus on expanding opportunities for its members and strengthening its collective voice in the profession.
