Chapman University has introduced the Or Initiative, a program designed to teach civil discourse skills to students in the digital age. Founded in 2025, the initiative addresses the challenges students face in engaging in evidence-based conversations about controversial topics. The program aims to equip students with the tools needed to navigate polarized issues, such as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, by providing a curriculum that encourages face-to-face dialogue. Supported by a $1.85 million grant from the Samueli Foundation, the initiative includes interviews with students and educators to develop effective teaching models.
