What's Happening?
North Star, an offshore infrastructure service provider, has acquired four new Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) from Edda Wind, expanding its offshore wind fleet to 14 vessels. This acquisition enhances
North Star's capacity and flexibility in serving key European markets. The vessels, named Goelo Enabler, Boreas Enabler, Nordri Enabler, and Sudri Enabler, are currently deployed on offshore wind contracts. The acquisition includes all associated charter parties and will maintain 160 offshore roles. Partners Group, which acquired North Star in 2022, has supported the company's expansion into the offshore wind industry.
Why It's Important?
The acquisition of these vessels by North Star is a strategic move to strengthen its position in the offshore wind industry, which is experiencing significant growth. By expanding its fleet, North Star can better meet the increasing demand for offshore wind services, contributing to the transition towards renewable energy sources. This expansion is also expected to boost North Star's financial performance, with projected run rate EBITDA reaching USD$134.9 million. The move underscores the importance of offshore wind as a critical component of the global energy mix and highlights the role of private investment in driving industry growth.
What's Next?
North Star will focus on integrating the new vessels into its operations while ensuring business continuity for its clients. The company may explore additional acquisitions or partnerships to further expand its fleet and service offerings. As the offshore wind industry continues to grow, North Star is likely to play a pivotal role in supporting the development and maintenance of wind farms across Europe. The company may also seek to leverage its expanded fleet to enter new markets and secure long-term contracts.
