What's Happening?
PepsiCo and the National Geographic Society have partnered to fund innovative regenerative agriculture projects. The initiative aims to scale regenerative farming practices across 10 million acres of PepsiCo's global supply chain by 2030. Five projects have been
selected for funding, focusing on biodiversity corridors, nitrogen-fixing crops, and intercropping systems. These projects, located in North America, Ethiopia, Spain, and Indonesia, will explore sustainable farming techniques and their impact on crop resilience and soil health. The initiative also includes a large-scale communications campaign to promote regenerative agriculture practices.
Why It's Important?
This partnership highlights the growing importance of regenerative agriculture in addressing climate change and enhancing food system resilience. By supporting innovative farming practices, PepsiCo and National Geographic aim to improve soil health, increase biodiversity, and reduce the environmental impact of agriculture. The initiative also seeks to provide farmers with science-backed practices that can enhance their livelihoods and contribute to a more sustainable food system. As climate change continues to threaten global food security, such efforts are crucial in building resilience and ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability.
