What's Happening?
The State Government has secured funding to host the Gravelista cycling event in Seymour for 2026 and 2027. Announced by Minister Michaela Settle, the $150,000 funding aims to attract hundreds of visitors to the Goulburn Valley region, supporting local
businesses and communities recovering from recent bushfires. The event will serve as a qualifying round for the 2027 Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Gravel World Championships in France. Starting from the Seymour Racecourse, participants will navigate some of Australia's fastest gravel roads, enhancing Seymour's reputation as a premier cycling destination. The event is expected to drive tourism and economic activity in the region.
Why It's Important?
Securing the Gravelista event is a significant boost for Seymour and the surrounding Goulburn Valley region, which have been working to recover from the economic impacts of the 2026 summer bushfires. By attracting both national and international visitors, the event is poised to enhance local tourism, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth. It also positions Seymour as a key player in the global cycling community, potentially leading to further opportunities for hosting international sporting events. The initiative underscores the importance of leveraging sports tourism as a tool for regional development and economic revitalization.
