What's Happening?
Geely Auto has successfully conducted a dual-sided crash test of its Starray EM-i vehicle at UTAC's Euro NCAP-accredited facility in France. This test, which exceeds current Euro NCAP side-impact standards, involved a side-impact strike followed by a far-side
rigid pole intrusion, simulating a multi-vehicle chain collision. The test assessed the vehicle's structural integrity, airbag deployment, and battery protection. The Starray EM-i maintained an intact passenger cell, deployed restraints, and triggered its eCall system, demonstrating advanced safety features. This test was showcased at the 'Automotive Safety Tech Globalization & Innovation in the Smart Driving Era' summit.
Why It's Important?
This achievement by Geely highlights the company's commitment to exceeding safety standards and advancing automotive safety technology. By conducting a test that goes beyond regulatory requirements, Geely sets a new benchmark for vehicle safety in Europe. The successful demonstration of the Starray EM-i's safety features could enhance consumer confidence and influence safety regulations. Additionally, Geely's decision to open selected safety patents to industry peers may foster innovation and collaboration in the automotive sector, potentially leading to safer vehicles across the industry.
