What's Happening?
At the ITB Berlin conference, Mark Hollyhead, Chief Transformation Officer at Aven Hospitality, discussed the evolving landscape of hotel bookings with Simone Puorto. Aven Hospitality is focusing on transforming the direct booking process into a more
connected and orchestrated experience. This shift aims to help hotels maintain visibility and competitiveness in a rapidly changing market. Hollyhead highlighted the transition from traditional search methods to a more intent-driven approach, where travelers express specific desires, such as sustainable properties or specific amenities, and receive tailored responses. This approach is likened to platforms like Netflix, which anticipate user preferences. Aven Hospitality is also implementing the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to give hotels more control over their representation in AI-enabled searches, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information is presented to potential guests.
Why It's Important?
The shift towards intent-driven booking processes represents a significant change in the hospitality industry, potentially altering how hotels interact with guests and manage their online presence. By adopting AI and MCP, hotels can ensure they are accurately represented, which is crucial as AI tools become primary discovery points for travelers. This transformation could lead to increased direct bookings, reducing reliance on online travel agencies (OTAs) and potentially lowering costs associated with third-party bookings. For the hospitality industry, maintaining brand integrity and ensuring accurate representation in digital spaces will be more critical than ever, impacting how hotels market themselves and engage with customers.
What's Next?
As Aven Hospitality continues to implement MCP, hotels are expected to gain more control over their digital presence, potentially leading to a more personalized and efficient booking experience for travelers. The industry may see a gradual shift away from traditional OTA models towards more direct engagement with guests. This could prompt other hospitality companies to adopt similar technologies to remain competitive. Additionally, as AI tools evolve, hotels will need to continuously update their strategies to meet changing consumer expectations and technological advancements.
