What's Happening?
Kelun-Biotech, in partnership with Windward Bio, has commenced dosing the first patients in the Phase 2 SIRIUS study of SKB378/WIN378, a fully human ultra long-acting anti-TSLP antibody, for chronic obstructive
pulmonary disease (COPD). This study aims to evaluate the safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of the drug in patients with moderate-to-severe COPD. SKB378/WIN378 is also being tested in a Phase 2/3 asthma study, with initial data expected later in 2026. The drug has the potential to be the first ultra long-acting anti-TSLP antibody for both asthma and COPD.
Why It's Important?
The initiation of the Phase 2 SIRIUS study marks a significant advancement in the development of SKB378/WIN378, which could address the unmet medical needs of COPD patients. COPD is a leading cause of death worldwide, and current treatments are often insufficient. The development of a long-acting treatment option could improve patient outcomes by reducing exacerbations and hospitalizations. This study also underscores the potential of SKB378/WIN378 to become a first-to-market therapy, offering a competitive advantage in the respiratory disease treatment landscape.
