What's Happening?
The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) has reported significant growth in Canada's business travel sector, particularly in Toronto, during its 2026 Canada Conference. The event, held from April
27-29 at The Westin Harbour Castle, highlighted that Toronto generated $4.3 billion USD in industry revenue in 2024, supporting over 21,000 jobs. The conference attracted nearly 700 attendees from seven countries, including 195 corporate travel managers. GBTA's research indicates that business travel spending in Canada is projected to grow by 9.6% in 2025, surpassing the global growth rate of 6.6%. The conference featured presentations and discussions on the resilience and economic contributions of business travel, with a focus on advancing the sector in Canada.
Why It's Important?
The findings from the GBTA underscore the critical role of business travel in driving economic growth and innovation in Canada. With Toronto being a major hub, the city's ability to generate substantial revenue and support thousands of jobs highlights the importance of maintaining and expanding business travel activities. This growth not only benefits the local economy but also reinforces Toronto's position as a key destination for international business events. The insights provided by GBTA can influence policymakers and business leaders to continue investing in the business travel sector, which is essential for fostering collaboration and achieving business objectives.
What's Next?
Looking ahead, the GBTA has outlined a series of events and programming for 2026, including the annual GBTA Convention in Chicago and various Buyer Only Exchanges across Canada. These events aim to further support the business travel community and provide opportunities for networking and professional development. The continued focus on business travel's economic impact may lead to increased advocacy efforts to ensure the sector's growth and sustainability. Additionally, the 2027 GBTA Canada Conference is scheduled to take place at The Westin Harbour Castle, indicating ongoing commitment to the region.
