What's Happening?
Former developers from the iconic games Diablo and Diablo II have announced a new cooperative online action role-playing game (OARPG) titled Darkhaven. The game is being developed by Moon Beast Productions and draws inspiration from classic titles such as Diablo, Torchlight, Hellgate London, Marvel Heroes, and Nox. Darkhaven is set in a dark fantasy world following the collapse of civilization. It features a procedurally generated, dynamic, and persistent world where players can engage in solo play, cooperative adventures, and high-stakes player-versus-player (PvP) realms. The game world is highly interactive, allowing players to alter terrain and structures, such as digging through earth, tunneling through dungeon walls, and redirecting lava
flows. The game emphasizes a balance between stat progression, build choice, and player skill, with a focus on movement, timing, and terrain awareness. Darkhaven is currently available for wishlisting on Steam, and a Kickstarter campaign is planned. A demo is expected to be released before February 23rd, coinciding with Steam Next Fest.
Why It's Important?
The announcement of Darkhaven is significant as it marks the return of veteran developers from the Diablo series to the gaming industry, bringing with them a wealth of experience in creating engaging and immersive action RPGs. The game's innovative features, such as a fully dynamic world and enhanced player movement mechanics, could set new standards in the genre, potentially influencing future game development. The involvement of former Diablo developers may attract a dedicated fan base eager for a new experience reminiscent of the classic games. Additionally, the use of Kickstarter for funding highlights the growing trend of crowdfunding in the gaming industry, allowing developers to gauge interest and secure financial backing directly from potential players. This approach can lead to more creative freedom and direct engagement with the gaming community.
What's Next?
As Darkhaven progresses towards its release, the developers are likely to focus on refining the game's mechanics and ensuring a smooth player experience. The upcoming demo will provide an opportunity for players to experience the game firsthand and offer feedback, which could be crucial for final adjustments. The Kickstarter campaign will play a pivotal role in securing additional funding and building a community around the game. The developers may also engage in marketing efforts to increase visibility and attract a wider audience. As the release date approaches, the gaming community will be watching closely to see how Darkhaven compares to its predecessors and whether it can carve out a niche in the competitive action RPG market.
