What's Happening?
Boone Jenner, captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets, has launched an initiative called Boone's Buddies through the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation. This program supports children receiving care at Nationwide Children’s Hospital by hosting families staying
at the Ronald McDonald House at 20 Blue Jackets home games. The initiative provides these families with a night of respite and fun, allowing them to enjoy a game and receive exclusive Boone's Buddies hats. Jenner, who has been actively involved in pediatric cancer initiatives, meets with each family to hear their stories and build personal connections. His efforts have earned him recognition as the Blue Jackets’ 2025-26 Community MVP and nominations for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy and the King Clancy Memorial Trophy.
Why It's Important?
The Boone's Buddies initiative highlights the role of sports figures in community service and the positive impact they can have on families facing medical challenges. By providing a night of enjoyment and distraction from their daily struggles, Jenner's program offers emotional support and creates lasting memories for these families. This initiative also underscores the importance of community involvement by professional athletes, showcasing how their influence can extend beyond the sports arena to make a meaningful difference in people's lives. Jenner's recognition and awards further emphasize the value of leadership and humanitarian contributions in sports.
