Hyundai Motor Group has invested $12.6 billion in a new electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing facility in Ellabell, Georgia, known as the Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA). The plant, which began production in 2024, spans 7.5 million square
feet across 11 buildings and is designed to produce 500,000 vehicles annually. Currently, it manufactures the Ioniq 5 and 9 models, with plans to expand to 10 models, including hybrids and entries from Kia and Genesis. The facility also includes a joint venture battery plant with LG, a training center, and an ecological park. The plant employs 1,623 people, with plans to increase to 2,600, and the total workforce, including suppliers, is expected to reach 8,500. Salaries at the plant average $56,000 annually, which is 25% higher than the local average.
