What's Happening?
Arkouda Stays is preparing to open a new luxury wellness hotel, Arkouda House, in Big Bear Lake, California, with an expected debut in May 2026. This development involves a multimillion-dollar redevelopment of a property originally known as the Honey
Bear Lodge, which was restored after significant damage from the 1992 earthquake. The new hotel will feature 20 rooms and a wellness center equipped with a sauna, hot tub, and cold plunge. Arkouda House aims to provide a walkable and social environment for couples, groups, and small families. This will be the second property in Big Bear for Arkouda Stays, following the Arkouda Cabins, a nine-unit retreat that opened in November 2025.
Why It's Important?
The opening of Arkouda House reflects a growing trend in the hospitality industry towards wellness and high-altitude training travel, particularly in cooler mountain destinations like Big Bear Lake. This development is significant as it aligns with the increasing demand for wellness tourism, which is becoming a major driver in the travel sector. The hotel's focus on wellness amenities and its strategic location in a year-round destination could attract a diverse clientele, boosting local tourism and the economy. Additionally, the project highlights the ongoing interest in redeveloping and modernizing older properties to meet contemporary luxury standards.
What's Next?
As Arkouda House prepares for its 2026 opening, further details about the hotel's offerings and services are expected to be announced. The development may prompt other hospitality businesses in the area to enhance their facilities to compete in the growing wellness tourism market. Local businesses and stakeholders might also explore partnerships with Arkouda Stays to capitalize on the anticipated influx of visitors. The success of Arkouda House could influence future investments in similar projects within the region, potentially transforming Big Bear Lake into a premier wellness destination.
