What's Happening?
Major League Baseball (MLB) is reviving the iconic series 'This Week in Baseball' with a modern twist by launching it as a digital series. The show, which originally debuted in 1977 and ran until 1998 with a brief return from 2000 to 2011, will now be
available on MLB's X account and @XOriginals. The series will air every Friday at noon and continue through the postseason. The original program was a 30-minute weekly show that highlighted major events in baseball, hosted by the late Hall of Fame announcer Mel Allen. The digital revival aims to bring the same excitement and coverage to a new generation of baseball fans.
Why It's Important?
The revival of 'This Week in Baseball' as a digital series reflects MLB's efforts to adapt to changing media consumption habits and engage with a younger, tech-savvy audience. By leveraging digital platforms, MLB can reach a broader audience and provide fans with timely updates and highlights. This move is significant as it aligns with the broader trend of sports leagues embracing digital content to maintain relevance and expand their fan base. The digital series could also serve as a model for other sports organizations looking to modernize their content delivery.
