What's Happening?
McKenzie Health System is set to host a session titled 'Talking is Teaching' as part of its 2026 Healthy Living Together series. Scheduled for April 15, the event will focus on early childhood development,
particularly emphasizing the importance of language skills in young children. Julia Albrecht, director of the Great Start Collaborative, will lead the presentation, offering practical tips and strategies to support language development through everyday interactions. The session is free and open to the public, with both in-person and virtual attendance options available. This initiative is part of a broader effort by McKenzie Health System, in collaboration with the Sanilac County Health Department, MSU Extension, Great Start Collaborative Sanilac, and Sanilac County Community Mental Health, to provide educational resources that support the health and wellness of individuals and families in Sanilac County.
Why It's Important?
The 'Talking is Teaching' session underscores the critical role of early language development in a child's overall learning and success. By equipping parents and caregivers with effective communication strategies, the initiative aims to lay a strong foundation for children's educational journeys. This focus on early childhood development is crucial, as language skills are closely linked to cognitive development and future academic performance. The program also highlights the importance of community involvement in fostering a supportive environment for children's growth. By offering these resources at no cost, McKenzie Health System and its partners are making strides toward reducing educational disparities and promoting equal opportunities for all children in the region.
What's Next?
Following the 'Talking is Teaching' session, McKenzie Health System will continue its Healthy Living Together series with a variety of educational events scheduled throughout the year. These include workshops on topics such as digital safety for seniors, cooking with kids, and estate planning basics. Each session is designed to address different aspects of health and wellness, catering to diverse community needs. The ongoing series reflects a commitment to providing continuous learning opportunities that empower individuals and families to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
