What's Happening?
The World Rally Championship (WRC) may return to the United States for the first time since 1988. FIA officials are set to visit Tennessee and Kentucky in June to evaluate potential locations and attend an American Rally Association event. This visit is part of a collaboration with the Automobile Competition Committee of the U.S. (ACCUS) to potentially host a WRC event in the U.S. by 2027. The return of the WRC would be a significant boost for the North American rallying community, offering a chance to engage new audiences and capitalize on the growing popularity of motorsports in the U.S.
Why It's Important?
The potential return of the WRC to the U.S. represents a major opportunity for the American rallying community to gain international exposure and attract new
fans. Hosting a WRC event could stimulate local economies, increase tourism, and enhance the profile of motorsports in the U.S. The collaboration between the FIA and ACCUS highlights the growing interest in expanding the reach of rally racing. This development could also inspire local teams and enthusiasts, providing them with a platform to showcase their skills on a global stage.
What's Next?
FIA officials will conduct site visits in Tennessee and Kentucky, followed by meetings with American rallying officials to discuss logistics and feasibility. If successful, the U.S. could host a WRC event as early as 2027. The outcome of these evaluations will determine the next steps in bringing the WRC back to the U.S., potentially leading to further collaborations and events in the future.
