What's Happening?
Prometheus Hyperscale, based in Evanston, Wyoming, is launching an initiative to train and hire a local workforce for its data centers. The company is collaborating with Eastern Wyoming College to develop
a vocational workforce pipeline, aiming to produce skilled workers for data center construction. This initiative is part of Prometheus's Build Wyoming project, which includes community benefit agreements to ensure transparency and accountability. The company has already contributed $10,000 to kickstart the program and plans to expand its efforts in Uinta County. Prometheus's data centers will utilize non-potable water for cooling and generate their own power using natural gas, supporting Wyoming's oil and gas industry.
Why It's Important?
This initiative addresses Wyoming's 'brain drain' issue by creating high-paying jobs that encourage young residents to stay in the state. By training a local workforce, Prometheus aims to fulfill its commitment to hiring locally and supporting the state's economic development. The data centers are expected to create thousands of jobs, contributing to Wyoming's economic resilience and reducing reliance on external labor. Additionally, the use of natural gas for power generation aligns with Wyoming's energy resources, potentially revitalizing the state's oil and gas industry.
