Rio Tinto has announced the appointment of Trudi Charles as the new chief legal officer, governance, and corporate affairs, effective August 1. Charles will succeed Isabelle Deschamps in this role. She brings extensive experience from her previous position
as deputy general counsel and senior VP legal at BP, where she worked for over two decades. Her career at BP included various senior legal roles across its downstream and supply, trading, and shipping businesses. Charles is admitted to the Law Society of England & Wales, the Law Society of Hong Kong, and the Queensland Law Society. Rio Tinto's CEO, Simon Trott, expressed confidence in Charles's deep legal experience and commercial insight, anticipating her leadership in the company's legal, governance, and corporate affairs teams.
