MEDITE SMARTPLY has announced a significant €75 million investment to upgrade its MDF manufacturing operations at the Clonmel facility in Ireland. This investment marks the company's 50th anniversary and aims to reinforce its commitment to panel manufacturing.
The core of this investment involves replacing the existing biomass boiler system and upgrading fuel handling, dryer systems, and other critical infrastructure. The Clonmel facility, which operates continuously, produces approximately 400,000 cubic meters of MDF products annually. The new biomass system will generate the necessary thermal energy for drying wood fiber, ensuring consistent product quality. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernize the facility, with European companies like Dieffenbacher and Sunds Fibertech providing key technologies.
