What's Happening?
The St. Regis brand is set to make its debut in New Zealand with the opening of a new hotel in Queenstown, scheduled for late 2027. This 145-key property will be centrally located, offering views of The Remarkables mountain range and Lake Wakatipu. The hotel will feature
a St. Regis Bar, The Drawing Room, an all-day dining venue, a full-service spa, and a 24/7 gym. Butler service, a hallmark of the St. Regis brand, will also be available. Richard Crawford, Marriott's VP of Hotel Development for Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific, expressed excitement about establishing the iconic brand in such a popular destination, which attracts over two million visitors annually.
Why It's Important?
The introduction of the St. Regis brand in Queenstown is significant as it fills a gap in the luxury hotel market in the region. Queenstown, known for its stunning landscapes and as a major tourist destination, has limited high-end accommodation options. The new St. Regis hotel is expected to elevate Queenstown's status as a luxury travel destination, potentially attracting more affluent travelers and boosting the local economy. This development also marks the first St. Regis property in both Australia and New Zealand, expanding the brand's global footprint and enhancing its prestige in the luxury hospitality sector.
What's Next?
As the opening date approaches, further details about the hotel's amenities and services are likely to be announced. The local tourism industry and businesses may prepare for an increase in high-end visitors, potentially leading to more luxury-oriented services and experiences in the area. The hotel could also influence other luxury brands to consider Queenstown for future developments, further transforming the region's hospitality landscape.
