What's Happening?
The Mountain West Conference is currently in the midst of its June official visit season, a critical time for college football recruiting. During this period, coaches are concentrating on bringing prospective student-athletes to their campuses for official visits,
rather than extending new offers. This strategy aims to secure verbal commitments from players who have already received offers. Over the past week, there were only 25 new offers, while at least 50 players visited various campuses. This approach has resulted in nine new verbal commitments, with schools like Boise State, Oregon State, North Dakota State, and San Diego State each securing multiple commitments. The NCAA's quiet period, which restricts off-campus contact, is currently in effect, allowing coaches to communicate with recruits only through texts, calls, and emails, and to meet them in person only on campus.
Why It's Important?
The focus on official visits during the quiet period is a strategic move by Mountain West teams to strengthen their recruiting classes. By prioritizing campus visits, schools can provide recruits with a comprehensive view of their programs, facilities, and campus life, which can be pivotal in a recruit's decision-making process. This approach is particularly significant as it allows schools to build stronger relationships with recruits, potentially leading to more commitments. The success of this strategy is evident in the multiple commitments secured by several teams, which could enhance their competitiveness in future seasons. For the recruits, these visits offer a chance to experience the campus environment and interact with coaches and current players, helping them make informed decisions about their college careers.
What's Next?
As the quiet period continues, Mountain West teams will likely maintain their focus on hosting recruits for official visits. This strategy is expected to continue yielding commitments as recruits finalize their decisions. Schools will also prepare for the upcoming evaluation and contact periods, during which coaches can visit recruits off-campus. This will provide additional opportunities to engage with potential recruits and strengthen their recruiting classes. The ongoing recruitment efforts will play a crucial role in shaping the future rosters of these teams, impacting their performance in upcoming seasons.
