UCLA has been named the No. 1 team in the final Associated Press women's basketball Top 25 poll for the 2025-2026 season, following their victory over South Carolina to win their first NCAA championship. The Bruins were unanimously chosen by the 31-member
national media panel, marking the first time in school history they ended the season as the top-ranked team. South Carolina, which was defeated by UCLA in both the championship and earlier in the season, finished second. UConn and Texas, both Final Four participants, were ranked third and fourth, respectively. The poll also highlighted Virginia's return to the rankings at No. 19 after reaching the Sweet 16 for the first time in 26 years. Despite their success, Virginia made a coaching change, dismissing Amaka Agugua-Hamilton. The SEC and Big Ten each had eight teams in the final Top 25, showcasing their dominance in women's college basketball.
