The study, titled 'The Evolution of Self-Checkout in Australia: Insights from Retailers and Consumers,' surveyed 1,000 consumers and over 180 retailers across various segments. It found that more than two-thirds of Australian consumers prefer self-checkout options, especially when shopping alone or in a hurry. However, consumers also expressed a desire for improved in-store experiences, such as intuitive assistance, diverse payment methods, and flexible shopping processes. Retailers are responding by integrating AI-driven technologies to enhance
customer experience, improve efficiency, and address challenges like checkout delays and trust issues.
