What's Happening?
A survey conducted by Omdia, in collaboration with Ciena and Cisco, reveals that communications service providers (CSPs) are increasingly integrating AI into their transport network operations. The survey, which included 80 respondents, indicates that over
one-third of CSPs have already incorporated AI into their daily operations or plan to do so within a year. The primary benefits of AI integration include reduced human error and faster troubleshooting. Additionally, network digital twins are emerging as a valuable tool for optimizing network performance and validating AI recommendations.
Why It's Important?
The adoption of AI in transport networks represents a significant shift towards more efficient and reliable network operations. By reducing human error and improving troubleshooting capabilities, CSPs can enhance service quality and reduce operational costs. The use of network digital twins further supports this transition by providing a virtual environment to test and validate AI-driven decisions, minimizing risks associated with live network changes. This trend is likely to drive innovation and competitiveness in the telecommunications industry.
What's Next?
As AI becomes more integrated into transport network operations, CSPs will continue to explore new use cases and applications for the technology. The development of network digital twins and other AI-driven tools will likely accelerate, providing CSPs with more sophisticated means of managing and optimizing their networks. The industry may also see increased collaboration between technology providers and CSPs to develop tailored AI solutions that address specific operational challenges.
